Ólafur Arnalds kommt aus Island und macht Musik, die nach Gletscherzungen und Trollflüstern klingt. Der typische Island-Quatsch? Keineswegs. Klingen Klavier und Violine mit Postrock-Anleihen besser? Dann eben dies.
Sein neues Album ...and they have escaped the Weight of Darkness wird von uns ausführlich angehört und wirken gelassen.
Nina Nastasia wurde von Steve Albini produziert und ist per du mit John Peel. Sie arbeitete mit dem amerikanischen Punk Label Touch and Go zusammen und vor kurzem erschien ihr sechstes Album Outlaster, in das wir genauer reinhören.
Feinsten Americana macht Josh Ritter, der in Idaho geboren wurde. Joan Baez coverte bereits einen seiner Songs für ihr Album und seine Musik ist ebenso in der grandiosen Fernsehserie Six Feet Under zu finden. So runs the World nennt sich sein aktuelles Album, das vielleicht eines der besten des ganzen Jahres ist.
Auch von den tausend Armen der Krake Broken Social Scene gibt es etwas neues. Stars aus Kanada veröffentlichten vor kurzem The Five Ghosts. Das Projekt um Amy Millan und Torquill Campell zeigt sich wie immer anrührend und manchmal sogar ein bisschen tanzbar.
