...mit neuen Veröffentlichungen von u.A. Big Star, Califone und Karl Blau
Ende 2009 ging für viele Fans der aus Memphis/Tennessie stammenden Powerpopband Big Star um den legenderen Songwriter Alex Chilton ein Traum in Erfüllung: Rhino Records brachte die langangekündigte CD-Box "Keep an eye on the sky" heraus, die nicht nur durch ihre akribische Recherche und Songauswahl besticht sondern darüber hinaus auch noch ein prachtvolles Artwork und Booklet enthält. Melophon möchte euch die Band, die erheblichen Einfluss auf viele nachfolgende Folk- und Indiebands hatte, näher vorstellen.
Auch die Chicagoer Band Califone hat ein neues, zähes und atmosphärisches Album namens "All my friends are funeral singers" herausgebracht, dass den zur Zeit von allen gehassten Winterblues auf den Punkt bringt. Hören wir rein.
Genauso wie in ein Album, dass so kurios wie klingt wie der Künstler auf dem Cover: Vollbart gepaart mit Zebra-Make-Up, stahlblaue Augen und ein roter Kapuzenpulli! Karl Blau, so heißt der Protagonist, macht seltsam verspielte Folkmusik auf K-Records, deren Melodien sich erst beim zweiten oder dritten durchhören so richtig einfräsen. Und wenn er auf Tour geht, so nimmt er schon mal seine Kleinfamilie mit.
Martin Newell, der Zusammen mit dem Autor des Musik-Kultbuches "Lost in music", Gil Smith, zusammen die Cleaners from Venus bildet(e), ist ein weiterer Kandidat aus der Kategorie: Längst vergessen, aber wiederentdeckt. Hörproben inklusive..
